What is the Abbott Lingo?
The Abbott Lingo is an over-the-counter CGM designed specifically for wellness-focused users without diabetes. It uses the same sensor technology as Abbott's FreeStyle Libre — the world's most accurate CGM platform — but with a completely rebuilt app experience designed for non-clinical users.
The defining feature is the Lingo Count — a proprietary daily score that translates your entire day's glucose pattern into a single number. Instead of requiring you to learn what 140 mg/dL means and whether a spike to 165 mg/dL is concerning, the app does that interpretation for you and surfaces a score you can track and improve.
The Lingo Count — glucose made simple
Your Lingo Count is calculated daily based on the shape of your glucose curve — how stable it was, how high post-meal peaks were, how quickly it returned to baseline, and how much time you spent in a healthy range.
A higher score means a more stable, metabolically favorable day. A lower score means more spikes, more variability, and more time in elevated ranges. The app also provides context — explaining which specific meals or activities drove your score up or down.
This gamification approach works well for people who find the clinical language of CGM data intimidating. You don't need to know what "time in range" or "MARD" means — you just know whether your score went up or down, and you can adjust your behavior accordingly.
The Lingo Count is most valuable for people new to CGM who want to improve their metabolic health but don't have a medical background. More experienced users or biohackers may prefer the raw data access of the Dexcom Stelo or Levels Health.
The Lingo app — education-first design
The Lingo app is built around behavioral change rather than data analysis. In addition to the daily score, it provides educational content explaining why your glucose responded the way it did — contextualizing spikes, stable periods, and the effects of specific foods and activities.
Food logging is straightforward, and the app correlates your meals with your glucose response automatically. Apple Health integration allows activity and sleep data to be layered on top of your glucose curve.
The app's main limitation compared to Stelo or Levels Health is that it provides less raw data access for users who want to dig into the numbers directly. If you want to analyze your glucose curve in detail, Stelo or Levels are better choices.
Abbott Lingo cost
The Lingo costs $89/month on subscription — slightly cheaper than the Dexcom Stelo at $99/month one-time ($89/month subscription). For 14-day sensors, that's 2 sensors per month.
Like all OTC CGMs, insurance does not cover the Lingo. HSA/FSA may apply — check with your plan administrator.
