What weight-loss research does and does not establish

Small trials have tested CGM feedback with structured nutrition counseling in selected groups. They do not establish that flattening glucose spikes causes weight loss, that a sensor alone produces lasting weight loss or that one commercial service works best.

A glucose trace does not measure insulin or fat burning. Lowering a post-meal glucose peak does not itself prove greater weight loss.

There is no validated CGM target for weight loss established here. Healthy research reference values such as time in 70–140 mg/dL are observations, not personal treatment goals.

Features to compare

Nutrisense currently lists Dexcom Stelo among its products. Coaching plans provide access to registered dietitians. Check the selected plan for sensor quantity, coaching and service eligibility; the device’s FDA indication does not determine eligibility for the service. No comparative trial here establishes Nutrisense as a weight-loss winner. Read our review →

Dexcom Stelo offers glucose tracking and food logging with up to 15-day wear. Compare its intended use, features and current manufacturer price. Read our review →

CGM and weight loss

Choose according to clinical suitability, current features and support needs. Registered dietitian access is a service feature, not proof that one subscription gives the best chance of weight loss.

If you're self-directed and data-savvy: Levels Health lists an app membership and Dexcom Stelo is an OTC option without a subscription.

If you're new to CGM and not sure where to start: Compare Stelo’s current purchase price with the selected Levels or Nutrisense plan, including sensor supply, app access and support. A service subscription does not establish a weight-loss benefit.

Frequently asked questions

How long should I wear a CGM for weight loss?
There is no established universal 4–8-week insight period or evidence here that monthly or quarterly sensors are sufficient. Discuss whether monitoring is useful and how long to use it with a qualified professional.
Do I need a prescription for CGM weight loss?
Dexcom Stelo is an over-the-counter device for people aged 2 years and older who do not use insulin, with caregiver supervision below 18. It is not intended for problematic hypoglycemia or dialysis and has no clinical high/low alarms. Platform enrollment may have narrower eligibility. Lingo has a separate adult indication. A platform’s service eligibility may be narrower than its supplied sensor’s labeling.
Can CGM replace a diet or nutrition plan?
CGM records glucose and does not prescribe a diet or calorie target. This comparison establishes no commercial winner for weight loss. Nutrition counseling and sensor-only effects are distinct in the small studies described.
